About Us
Stephen, Melanie, and Dianna Muldrow have shown throughout their teenage years that young people can impact their friends, their cities and the world. Broken Cords grew out of their realization that many people do not understand the horrors of human trafficking and how each of us can help prevent the modern-day enslavement of children, women and men.
At 18 years of age, Stephen has just graduated from high school after being homeschooled and will be attending the University of Chicago this fall to major in Political Science and International Studies. He was awarded the W.L.”Doc” Herndon Scholarship from the Highlands Rotary Club. He hopes to one day write public policy (either from a back office or the Oval Office) that will result in positive changes, particularly in the Middle East. He enjoys studying the Arabic language, travel, and close interaction with kids – often in the form of skits and storytelling.
Melanie, 17, and Dianna, 14, are currently in high school at home. They like reaching out to kids in settings such as Children’s Ministries of Texas, Vacation Bible School, and 5-day Bible Clubs. The girls share a mutual love of music, particularly playing the piano and violin, and they enjoy volunteering together at their local library. Both young ladies are active in 4-H and have won top honors at the Harris County Fair and the Baytown Youth Fair with quilting and baking projects. They also enjoy serving together as Junior Counselors at a girls’ camp each summer.
Stephen and Melanie recently participated in the National High School Mock Trial Competition, and their team placed 1st in Houston’s Regional Competition and finished 3rd in the Texas High School Mock Trial State Tournament. Dianna joined them for the National Council on Economic Education’s Texas State Finals, where they placed 10th in the state’s AP Division. All three siblings volunteer with Catholic Charities of Houston’s refugee resettlement program and enjoy their friendships with refugee families from Iraq and Afghanistan. They are active members of Houston’s World Affairs Council, each receiving Student Diplomat recognition.
Part of a family of 10 children born and raised here in the Houston area, Stephen, Melanie, and Dianna encourage all young people to stand up and use this time in their lives to make a difference in the world around them!
