What is human trafficking?

Human trafficking is a 32 billion dollar industry which exploits 27 million people worldwide in modern-day slavery. Trafficking takes places in many forms, not only sexual slavery, but also domestic situations, sweatshop factories, and tourist industries, among other types of businesses. The United States Justice Department has ranked Houston’s I-10 corridor as one of the main routes of human trafficking in the nation. To learn more, please visit the Human Trafficking page.

Who came up with the idea for Broken Cords?

Stephen, Melanie, and Dianna Muldrow have shown throughout their teenage years that young people can impact their friends, their cities, and the world. Broken Cords grew out of their realization that many people do not understand the horrors of human trafficking and how each of us can help prevent the modern-day enslavement of children, women, and men. For more information about the Muldrows, please see the About page.
